My HCP is meant to set up the “conversation” that scholars are having about bear cognition and make a path to discuss the problem and solution of bear bile farming addressed in the AP. The assignment is called “Historical” because it includes what the scholars have written about this topic over time. One of the main purposes of the HCP is to get exposure to various topics, arguments, histories, and background knowledge needed to write an informed advocacy essay. Another purpose is to begin the process of learning how to locate, evaluate, select, arrange, and integrate sources into a multi-modal composition, where besides the text at least one image, graph, or infographic will become part of the evidence.

In this revision I attempted to add a source that is relevant to the topic of research, in this case, bear cognition. The underlined portion in the "After" image, is the sentence I added that provides further details of the historical aspect of animal cognition to enhance the reader’s understanding of the conversation portion of the HCP. |
My Advocacy Project is a multimedia essay that besides presenting a thorough historical review on the scientific literature (HCP) of bear cognition, it also defines bear bile farming, the continuous cruel harvesting of bear bile despite the humane alternatives that exist, ethically illegal. Additionally, my AP recommends the best solutions to this issue that include: raising awareness among consumers and potential consumers through different communication mediums so as to change people's perceptions and attitudes, as well as endorsing the crucial first-step in ending this industry, implementing sterilization programs.

Before
I noticed that when introducing the issue of bear bile farming, I started with statistics without providing background information. Therefore, as seen in the "After" image, I reorganized the introduction by moving to the beginning some sentences with basic informational details, that describe what bear bile is and why it matters. After, I then added the statistics.
